Last year we had so much fun and done so well with this game we have joined up to play again this year.

There will be envelopes for parents coming home today, which contain the card for parents/carers and instructions on how to play. Also coming home today is a fob for your child and a map of Hackney showing where all the “beat boxes” are located.

This is a community wide walking challenge which invites children, parents and staff to play a fun free game for 6 weeks from 20th September and ending on 8th November as a whole team, to make the most of the walk to and from school, around town and to work, explore parks and green spaces. Each child, parent and staff member has been given a card so they can collect points for “team Oldhill”.

The winning school in each borough will win £1000 worth of sports and fitness vouchers for their school and there are lots of individual prizes available for children and adults taking part.

Last year Oldhill came 1st in Hackney with a whopping 50,670 points and we are very proud of our Beat the Street trophy on display in the school office.

The game officially starts tomorrow but from today onwards you will see Beat Boxes appear on lampposts around the four East London boroughs taking part – Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

Why are we playing?

  • When you walk and tap Beat Boxes (our closet will be right outside the main entrance), you gain points for our school team. The more points, the higher the school climbs on the leaderboards and could win a prize!  There are so many Beat Boxes around so keep your eyes peeled.
  • The top 3 schools or community teams in each of the 4 East London boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest will win: 1st place – £1000 sport and fitness vouchers, 2nd place – £500 sport and fitness vouchers, 3rd place £250 sport and fitness vouchers.
  • For parents/carers and staff – Just by registering your card and playing the game, players are in with a chance to win ‘lucky tap’ prizes including – £25 Decathlon voucher, West Ham tickets, bike vouchers and much more!!! The more you use your card or fob, the greater your chance of winning a prize.
  • We will be in competition with all other schools taking part in the above mentioned boroughs, but last year we smashed it and hope to do even better this year!!!

Go Team Oldhill!!!
