Religious Education

At Oldhill Community our aim is to enrich the children’s spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development through the teaching of Religious Education. Oldhill Community’s Religious Education program offers children opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of different religions, beliefs, values, and traditions whilst also exploring their own.

We follow the Hackney scheme of work which was written by members of the SACRE (Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education) which covers 6 major faiths; Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Judaism.RE is taught every other half term weekly to ensure that the children have regular opportunities to learn and discover about faiths and beliefs in our multicultural world.

In order to support learning at home children are given ‘knowledge organisers’ which includes key vocabulary and suggested questions. This can help parents and careers to talk to their children about what they have been learning in RE.

At Oldhill Community we are incredibly lucky to have such a large multi-faith community and we have yearly celebration events including Fireworks for Dawali, Winter Wonderland for Christmas including a school production of the nativity story, and a party and feast for Eid. This brings the whole school community together and is another way children are taught to celebrate their differences.

British Values

We follow the Hackney schemes of work which have themes of British values running through them. Through the teaching of RE children develop an understanding of respect for others and valuing both their own and others’ views and beliefs.
